What is Ol Kinyei Conservancy and why is it different from the main Maasai Mara reserve?
Ol Kinyei Conservancy is a private, community-owned conservation area adjacent to the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem. Unlike the main reserve, Ol Kinyei has no vehicle congestion, allows full off-road driving, and directly supports Maasai landowners through tourism revenue. Your guide can position the vehicle anywhere for optimal sightings rather than staying on tracks. This is what makes the Maasai Mara experience on this tour exceptional.
What is the underground wildlife hide at Tsavo East?
The underground hide at your Tsavo East lodge is a ground-level bunker positioned directly at the waterhole’s edge. Ground-level windows place you at eye level with elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and lions as they come to drink. During peak dry season, guests have recorded over 60 elephants and 100 zebras simultaneously at the waterhole. The waterhole is floodlit at night extending wildlife viewing after dark. It is one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters on this entire itinerary.
Can we take the SGR train instead of flying on some routes?
Yes. The SGR Madaraka Express train between Nairobi and Mombasa is a comfortable and scenic alternative to flying on that leg of the journey. VIP or Premium Class is recommended for the experience. If you choose the train option your per-person rate is reduced as the flight cost is removed. Back to the Source Tours tailors the logistics based on your preference.
What is the Diani Beach accommodation like?
Your Diani Beach resort is all-inclusive and beachfront with direct access to both Diani and the quieter Galu Beach to the south. The package is costed on ocean view rooms with a private balcony or terrace facing the Indian Ocean. The resort has multiple pools, restaurants, bars, spa facilities, daily activities, and nightly entertainment. The nearby coastal forest shelters the endangered Angolan colobus monkey.
Are all flights included?
Yes. All internal flights in Kenya are included in your tour price: the Wilson Airport to Ol Kinyei Conservancy flight on Day 2, the Maasai Mara to Tsavo East flight on Day 5, the Tsavo East to Mombasa coastal flight on Day 7, and the Mombasa to Nairobi return flight on Days 10 and 11. International flights to and from Kenya are not included.
Do I need a Kenya visa?
